چکیده

Dynamic legged locomotion entails navigating unstructured terrain at high speed. The discontinuous foot-fall patterns and flight phases, which are pivotal for its unrivaled mobility, introduce large impulses and extended free-falls that serve to destabilize motion estimation. In a nod to biological systems, visual information, in the form of optical flow, is used with a hybrid estimator tuned to the principal phases of legged locomotion. This takes advantage of the ballistic nature of the flight phases to vary optical flow calculation methods and estimator parameters. Experimentation on a single-leg shows a reduction in inertial drift. In tests with 6g impulses, pose was recovered within 5 deg rms with angular rate errors limited to 10 deg/sec at frequencies up to 250 Hz. This compares well with angular rate recovery by vision only and traditional inertial techniques.

Towards High-Fidelity On-Board Attitude Estimation for Legged Locomotion via a Hybrid Range and Inertial Approach

Legged robots display a characteristically periodic motion. Measuring and tracking this motion has traditionally been performed using general inertial measurement techniques. While widely applied in robotics, this approach is limited in dynamic legged locomotion due to the excessive accumulation of drift from severe impact shocks (nearly 9g in single leg experiments). This paper introduces the ...

Using the Adaptive Frequency Nonlinear Oscillator for Earning an Energy Efficient Motion Pattern in a Leg- Like Stretchable Pendulum by Exploiting the Resonant Mode

In this paper we investigate a biological framework to generate and adapt a motion pattern so that can be energy efficient. In fact, the motion pattern in legged animals and human emerges among interaction between a central pattern generator neural network called CPG and the musculoskeletal system. Here, we model this neuro - musculoskeletal system by means of a leg - like mechanical system cal...

تحلیل حرکت جریانات دریائی در تصاویر حرارتی سطح آب دریا

Oceanographic images obtained from environmental satellites by a wide range of sensors allow characterizing natural phenomena through different physical measurements. For instance Sea Surface Temperature (SST) images, altimetry data and ocean color data can be used for characterizing currents and vortex structures in the ocean. The purpose of this thesis is to derive a relatively complete frame...

A Screw Representation for Attitude Estimation and Its Application to Legged Locomotion

Efficient motion estimation is central to observing and controlling dynamic legged locomotion. This paper considers a screw-theoretic (line-oriented) representation for this context and illustrates this on the attitude estimation subproblem. This is presented as part of an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) based on inertial (gyroscopic) sensing in which each measurement axis is treated as an zeropit...

Computation Optical Flow Using Pipeline Architecture

Accurate estimation of motion from time-varying imagery has been a popular problem in vision studies, This information can be used in segmentation, 3D motion and shape recovery, target tracking, and other problems in scene analysis and interpretation. We have presented a dynamic image model for estimating image motion from image sequences, and have shown how the solution can be obtained from a ...
